DEL NORTE HIGH SCHOOL
ABQ PUBLIC SCHOOLS

ALBUQUERQUE, NM

The design for the high school consolidates the footprint into a three-story building that seamlessly inserts into the existing sloping parking lot. New classrooms are organized around the small learning communities (SLC) model to provide opportunities for more individual attention; ninth grade academies help students adjust to high school and upper classmen academies are career-oriented. Site access is designed to reduce congestion by clearly separating multiple parent drop-offs, bus access, and student parking. Separate visitor and staff parking allow for easily controlled access to the school and visibility from the main administration area. Enhanced pedestrian circulation, easily supervised student gathering spaces, and views of the Sandia Mountains create a sense of transparency throughout the campus.
